As a Licensed Acupuncturist, Andrea has helped thousands of patients over more than two decades.  Her clients come to her for a variety of reasons, from simple relief of pain due to headaches or back pain to more complex issues such as arthritis, and fibromyalgia, anxiety or depression.   The beauty of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine is the way in which it works.  Unlike Western Medicine, which  often just treats the symptoms, Chinese Medicine treats the body as a whole body, mind and spirit working holistically to bring you back to a balanced state of health.

The Chinese Medicine Andrea utilizes consists of Acupuncture, Therapeutic Massage, Chinese Herbs, and possibly qi gong exercises.   These medicines work in tandem to re-establish balance and harmony within your body, mind and spirit.  Andrea diagnoses what is out of balance and uses acupuncture to allow the Qi (life energy, pronounced Chee) to flow to areas in your body where it is deficient. The use of therapeutic massage in combination with acupuncture enhances the flow of Qi.    Chinese herbs are prescribed to support your daily balancing of energy.  She uses psychological insights from Chinese Medicine and The Enneagram to help you become conscious of any hidden emotional stresses and blocks that can contribute to physical pain and imbalance.

Education

Andrea has over 20 years experience as a natural healer.  She  attended the Traditional Acupuncture Institute in Laurel, MD where she graduated with a Master's Degree in Acupuncture in 1995.  It is now the Maryland University of Integrative Health and one of the nations only accredited graduate schools with an academic and clinical focus on health and wellness.  In 1992, Andrea graduated from the Baltimore School of Massage completing their basic massage program where learned she had an aptitude for working with people who need deep tissue massage.

Areas of Specialty

Andrea earned her undergraduate degree in 1991 from the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine where she studied Human Ecology.  Her interests are multi- cultural and diverse, as she is a student of life studying many fields such as philosophy, psychology and astrology.  She has studied under Dr. Malidoma Some´, Phd., West African elder, author and teacher.  She earned her Shamanic Minister's license through Venus Rising Association for Transformation.

She currently lives in Sylva, North Carolina in a natural earthen home she hand sculpted with her own two hands and a lot of help from her friends.  She continues to offer her healing work at the Center for Natural Healing in Sylva, NC and teach people about the benefits of natural healing techniques through her classes, talks, and newsletters.

The Chinese Medical Diagnosis Using Acupuncture and the 5 Element Theory

Element

  • Wood
  • Fire
  • Earth
  • Metal
  • Water

Organ

  • Liver
  • Heart
  • Spleen
  • Lung
  • Kidney
"According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, medical treatment is the third-leading cause of death after heart disease, and cancer in the United States.  Homeopathy, and Chinese Medicine are two examples of possible alternative approaches to disease that do not treat the illness as an enemy and therefore do not create new diseases"
~ Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth

The 5 Elements consist of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.  When the elements are in union they work together to create balance and harmony in the world.  The Chinese believe the same is true of the human body.  Each element is assigned one of the five major regulatory organs of the body and is responsible for the health and well-being of other minor organs.
